Top five boxers in MMA today according to Freddie Roach

Top trainer in the boxing industry (while dabbling in MMA training) Freddie Roach has a resume longer than a toilet paper roll. From training Manny Pacquiao to Georges St-Pierre, many of the combat sport greats have came from this man alone. When he sat down last night with the cast of Inside MMA, we knew we would hear some great input on combat sports in general. Roach, alongside boxing star Andre Ward was happy to oblige with his list of top five boxers in the sport of mixed martial arts today. No, James Toney is not on the list, so you know it’s legit.

5) K.J. Noons — “K.J. is always in my gym and he’s very dedicated with his work ethic. I just love his tenacity in the ring. He comes to fight and he’s all about action.”

4) Nick Diaz — “Nick Diaz is one of the most exciting fighters in the world, today. He’s great with his hands. He gets sidetracked a little bit, like in his last fight, but I think he’ll a great comeback. I’m looking forward to facing him with “GSP” someday, ’cause there’s a lot of talk about that.”

3) B.J. Penn — “You know, B.J., he’s one of the best strikers I’ve ever faced, and that I’ve ever been in the ring with. It’s been quite a few years ago, and I think he’s close to retiring right now, but I’d call him the “James Toney of MMA,” because his weight would fluctuate quite a bit. He’ll fight from low weights to heavyweights. He’ll fight anyone in the world. He’s a good guy to be around, and he’s just a hard, hard worker and a great striker.”

2) Georges St. Pierre – “‘GSP’s’ one of the greatest guys in the world. He’s a real gentleman and one of the best students I’ve ever had. I asked him, ‘How long did you go home and practice in front of the mirror last night?’ Because if I show him a move, he comes back with it the next day, and you know he practiced all night in front of the mirror. So, I love the guy. He’s a good guy and a hard worker, and that’s what it’s all about it hard work.”

1) Anderson Silva – “I had the honor of working with Anderson Silva, when he was in our gym for about five or six days in a row. He told me, ‘I’m pretty good at MMA, but I’m not too good at boxing.’ He’s just a real humble guy and very talented. He is one of the best guys that really understands distance and timing. He fights off the ropes a little bit. I told him that can be a little bit dangerous sometimes and to be careful, but he’ll suck you in, he’ll set you up, he’s one of the most intelligent fighters I’ve ever seen and have ever worked with.”

Be aware that like any man, Roach is bias to the men he’s trained, which is pretty much all of them. Even so from first comparison I’d agree with 60% of the list. Hard to argue a better striker than the dominating pound-for-pound best Anderson Silva. Agree?

Realmente o boxe dele é afiado, mas acho que já tem melhores hoje em dia no UFC. Infelizmente o Vitor tá caiiindo, caiiindo, caiiindo... :/

Quero só ser a luta dele com o Wandeco <3

5- Rampage (pode estar meio em baixa mas sempre teve um boxe muito bom e com efetividade)

mas claro isso na minha opinião

Eu colocaria o Cigano na lista também, mas o AS continua em primeiro.

O Cigano pode ter mais pegada é faz mais combinações, mas o AS tem um timming muito foda e uma accuracy muito alta, além de esquivas melhores e mais fintas.

É uma boa. O que a maioria concordou é que G.S.P e K.J. não deveriam estar na lista. mas Nick, AS e B.J sim, acho uma falha não colocarem o Cigano, tanto pelo seu boxe e ainda ser o campeão

vitor n eh top boxer nem aki nem na pqp rs, ok eh razoavelmente tecnico em pe e extremamente explosivo e rapido mas eh so comparar com os outros top boxers do MMA q vcs vao ver a clara desvantagem dele em pé

anyway n consigo por uma ordem ate pq kd um eh bom em sua categoria e n tem como realmente comparar eu diria q os 6 melhores sao Cigano,AS,GSP,Edgar e Rampage ( na minha opniao um dos boxers mais afiados da historia do MMA qnd esta em boa forma),BJ penn

Um cara que tinha um boxe rlz era o Chuck.

Gostava dele trocando,era uma parada meio diferente sei lá kkkk
